CTDG - DASH

Where

DASH, a local CDTG group has started up in West Suffolk. It is centred around Bury St Edmunds but has members as far afield as Ely.

Held on Thursday mornings the meeting format has emerged as a hands on activity using traditional art materials followed by a related session on the computer.

Our latest trip took us to the annual textile exhibition held at The Market Cross Gallery, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. Visiting the exhibition as a group was amazingly stimulating. Comments freely flowed as we paused at each exhibit. The work included a piece by Susan Collis entitled ‘Boiler Suit’. At first glance this was an insignificant item of clothing, rather spotted with paint and probably left behind by a workman. On further inspection each blemish, every drip of paint was carefully hand embroidered. The result was skilful and yet humorously quirky. Other work was intellectually challenging such as the Flag of Independence by Tajender Sagoo. A poignant reflection on the difficulties faced by an emerging democracy. This is the third annual Art Textiles exhibition which, and I quote ‘is established as a dynamic project that regularly charts shifting practice and challenges traditional categories among artists who reference textile in their work.’
