THE PERSONAL COMPUTER has found its way into most homes by now, mostly used by the children for homework and games and often by the grown ups for email and surfing. Since a second hand machine arrived at our house, bought by my husband for his accounts, I have been driven by a fascination with computer design. I had never used a computer, didn't know the first thing about them but found that I needed to learn how to use it creatively. My first efforts were in designing simple block quilts, using the drawing tools in the word processing program Microsoft Word 97. Everyone I came into contact with who could give me a further insight into the secrets of the computer was hounded for bits of information. I progressed to using dedicated graphics packages such as Paint Shop Pro 7 and Corel. Very soon I had my own computer. I was on my way. An extract from an article by Marie Roper - Issue 51 |
